Bridge work, paving, and lane closures to affect Okaloosa and Walton drivers

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions this week in Okaloosa and Walton counties as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) carries out construction and maintenance projects.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Intermittent closures of the U.S. 98 westbound right-turn lane to Perry Avenue northbound are scheduled from Sunday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 9, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The turn will be accessible from the outside travel lane during these closures, required for City of Fort Walton Beach utility work.

  • Alternating lane closures will take place on U.S. 98 from Ferry Road to Pier Road, and on Santa Rosa Boulevard from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park, Sunday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 9, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • The roadway west of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center is closed from U.S. 98 to just north of the roundabout, including part of the roundabout itself. The closure is expected to remain in place through mid-2026 while the westbound bridge and approach are built.
  • Access to the Convention Center remains open via Pier Road. Properties north of U.S. 98, including Marler Park and the boat launch, are accessible via Santa Rosa Boulevard. Eastbound drivers will detour using the newly built East Connection.

— State Road 85 Improvements from State Road 123 to Hospital Drive
Intermittent lane closures are planned from Sunday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 9:

  • Shoal River Bridge to Interstate 10 (northbound): from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Interstate 10 to Shoal River Bridge (southbound): from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

— State Road 85 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90
Lane closures for striping operations are scheduled from Sunday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

WALTON COUNTY

— U.S. 331 Resurfacing from south of Interstate 10 to U.S. 90
Drivers will encounter intermittent and alternating lane closures between Coy Burgess Road and U.S. 90 from Sunday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 9, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving.

  • The U.S. 331 northbound outside right-turn lane is temporarily closed at the U.S. 90 intersection. One northbound left-turn lane and one shared left- and right-turn lane remain open.
  • The U.S. 90 westbound outside travel lane is temporarily closed between 11th Street and U.S. 331. One travel lane and one left-turn lane to access U.S. 331 remain open.

Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures for paving Sunday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. According to FDOT, drivers should use caution, particularly at night, when traveling through work zones and be alert for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
