Traffic disruptions set for U.S. 98, 85, 331, and 90 next week

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced upcoming lane closures and traffic changes in Okaloosa and Walton counties as part of construction and maintenance projects.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Intermittent closures of the U.S. 98 westbound right-turn lane to Perry Avenue northbound are scheduled Sunday, Sept. 28, through Thursday, Oct. 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The turn will remain available from the outside westbound travel lane. This closure is required for utility work by the City of Fort Walton Beach.

  • Alternating lane closures on U.S. 98 between Ferry Road and Pier Road, and on Santa Rosa Boulevard between Amberjack Drive and Ross Marler Park, will occur from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • The roadway west of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center remains closed from U.S. 98 to just north of the roundabout, including a partial roundabout closure, through mid-2026. Access to the Convention Center will remain open via Pier Road. Drivers can reach Marler Park and the boat launch via Santa Rosa Boulevard, with detour signage in place.

— State Road 85 Improvements
Intermittent lane closures are scheduled Sept. 28 through Oct. 2. Northbound lanes from Shoal River Bridge to Interstate 10 will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and southbound lanes from I-10 to Shoal River Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

— State Road 85 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements
Intermittent lane closures are scheduled from Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for striping operations.

WALTON COUNTY

— U.S. 331 Resurfacing from south of Interstate 10 to U.S. 90
Replacement of traffic signal mast arms at the U.S. 90/U.S. 331 intersection is scheduled from 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 to 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29. Temporary disruptions to the traffic signals are expected. Law enforcement officers and traffic flaggers will guide drivers.

  • Intermittent lane closures are planned on U.S. 331 from south of I-10 to U.S. 90, and on U.S. 90 from West Sloss Avenue to 11th Street, Sept. 29 through Oct. 2, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • The U.S. 331 northbound outside right-turn lane remains temporarily closed at the U.S. 90 intersection. One northbound left-turn lane and one shared lane for left- and right-turn movements remain open.
  • The U.S. 90 westbound outside travel lane between 11th Street and U.S. 331 remains temporarily closed. One westbound travel lane and one left-turn lane remain open.

Intermittent lane closures are scheduled from Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled. FDOT urges drivers to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through work zones, and to watch for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
