The Florida Department of Revenue (FDOR) said the annual tax holiday applies to clothing, shoes, wallets, handbags, and backpacks priced at $100 or less per item. School supplies priced at $50 or less per item are also included, as well as learning aids and jigsaw puzzles costing $30 or less.

Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories priced at $1,500 or less are also tax-free if purchased for noncommercial home or personal use, according to the FDOR.

The agency noted that some items are not included, such as watches, jewelry, briefcases, rental items, and computers purchased for business use. The tax break also doesn’t apply to purchases made at theme parks, entertainment complexes, airports, or public lodging establishments.

Shoppers can review the full list of eligible and excluded items on the FDOR’s official website: floridarevenue.com/backtoschool.

The annual back-to-school tax holiday became a permanent August event under state law in 2023, offering families a longer window to save money while preparing for the school year.
