DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. — A stolen vehicle investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man Saturday in the parking lot of Walmart, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).
The U.S. Marshals Task Force, which included WCSO deputies, reportedly located the stolen car on July 26. Deputies attempted to arrest the driver, identified as Christopher William Knight, but said he refused to get out of the vehicle.
After being taken into custody, Mr Knight was transported to the Walton County Jail for booking. The WCSO said he then committed battery on jail booking staff during the intake process.
Knight is charged with grand theft auto, obstruction, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
The WCSO released a photo showing items said to have been recovered during the investigation, including handwritten notes, an ID card, a black glove, and a red bag. Some of the writings appear to reference “police,” “bounty hunters,” and other phrases, though investigators have not said what the items indicate.
The WCSO said the case remains under investigation.
