FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — Drivers may encounter nighttime closures of Santa Rosa Boulevard near U.S. Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island next week as part of the ongoing Brooks Bridge Replacement Project, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced.

According to the FDOT, the closures are scheduled for Monday, July 14, through Thursday, July 17, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night. The work is required for crews to place beams for the new westbound bridge structure.

During the closures, drivers will be detoured via the roadway west of the Destin–Fort Walton Beach Convention Center to access Santa Rosa Boulevard north of the work zone.

Access to adjacent businesses and properties will remain open throughout the construction activity, FDOT said.

The nighttime closures are part of the $171 million Brooks Bridge Replacement Project, which includes the construction of two new, parallel bridges. The new structures will expand capacity from the current four lanes to six lanes. The original bridge was built in 1966. Project completion is expected in summer 2027.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled due to inclement conditions.

FDOT urges drivers to use caution in the work zone, especially at night, and to be alert for workers and equipment.
