Destin helicopter crash sends four to hospital, no major injuries

DESTIN, Fla. — Four people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday evening after a touring helicopter crashed on the runway at Destin Executive Airport, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) announced.

The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. and prompted a response from the Sheriff’s Office and emergency personnel. According to the OCSO, all four individuals on board were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The OCSO Airport Security Unit is investigating the incident.

“We are grateful there were no serious injuries and thank all responding agencies for their quick and coordinated efforts,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.

Photographs released from the scene show the red helicopter lying overturned on the runway with visible damage to the tail section.
