TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Florida A&M University vice president has been arrested on charges of grand theft and scheme to defraud following a criminal investigation into misuse of public funds, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced Monday.

Angela Adams Suggs, 55, of Tallahassee, was charged with one felony count of grand theft, one felony count of scheme to defraud, and four misdemeanor counts related to false travel voucher claims. She was serving as FAMU’s vice president and director of athletics at the time of her arrest and is the former president and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation.

According to FDLE, the case originated in November 2024 with a referral from the Florida Department of Commerce’s Inspector General. An audit reportedly flagged Ms Suggs’ use of a Florida Sports Foundation (FSF) business credit card to make personal transactions during business trips, including wire transfers, cash withdrawals, and purchases at casinos.

Investigators said the alleged unauthorized spending totaled more than $24,000. Ms Suggs is said to have concealed the misuse by submitting falsified travel vouchers and coding the personal charges as meal expenses.

When questioned, Suggs reportedly told investigators that some charges were for business meals and others had been mistakenly placed on the FSF card. She did not fully reimburse the foundation, according to FDLE.

Ms Suggs turned herself in on June 9 and was booked into the Leon County Jail on a $13,500 bond. The Office of the State Attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit is prosecuting the case.
