Derron Lanell Skinner, 34, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon following a multi-agency effort involving WCSO’s Intelligence Unit, patrol deputies, and nearby law enforcement partners. Mr Skinner was wanted in connection to an ongoing federal investigation involving ATM bank burglaries.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on June 5, WCSO received a BOLO alert from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspect believed to be traveling west toward Walton County. The WCSO Intelligence Unit quickly identified a black Range Rover with Texas plates believed to be carrying Skinner and relayed that information to road patrol deputies.

Deputies spotted the vehicle heading west on Highway 20 and executed a felony stop at the intersection of Highway 331 South and Highway 20 in Freeport. Mr Skinner was taken into custody without incident.

“The seamless coordination between our Intelligence Unit and road patrol was key in safely apprehending a suspect with serious charges,” said Walton County Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson, Jr.

“This is a prime example of technology, teamwork, and good police work coming together to keep our community safe.”

Skinner was transported to the Walton County Jail, where he was awaiting extradition by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Jacksonville.
