WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A DeFuniak Springs man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies discovered two pipe bombs and methamphetamine during a traffic stop, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has announced.

According to the WCSO, deputies stopped a vehicle early Tuesday at the intersection of Smith Road and Highway 90 after noticing it had a cardboard tag marked “PRIVATE.” The driver had no identification, but a birth certificate found in the car identified him as 37-year-old Benjamin Adam Roach.

Roach was reportedly in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

During an inventory of the vehicle, deputies said they found two suspicious objects — one made of capped PVC and the other wrapped in black electrical tape.

Mr Roach admitted both objects contained gunpowder and said one had a fuse, the WCSO said.

The Bay County Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene. The items were confirmed to be functional pipe bombs and were safely disarmed.

Roach was booked into the Walton County Jail on charges including making a bomb, possessing explosives, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
