SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. — A photo contest celebrating the beauty and ecology of the Choctawhatchee Bay and surrounding areas is now open for amateur photographers in Northwest Florida.
The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) has announced its 2025 Amateur Photo Contest, inviting residents and visitors to submit original images that highlight the region’s natural heritage, scenic landscapes, and moments that reflect the connection between people and the environment.

The contest, part of the Mattie Kelly Environmental Initiative, is open to amateur photographers of all skill levels. Entries must be original, high-quality photos taken in the Northwest Florida region.
Winning images and honorable mentions will be featured in the 2025 Mattie Kelly Environmental Institute calendar. The top three photographs will also receive cash prizes: $250 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third.
The submission deadline is July 4, 2025.
According to the CBA, submissions may focus on sustainability, science in action, or simply what participants love about nature in and around the Choctawhatchee Bay.
