FLORIDA — Florida residents and visitors can enjoy freshwater fishing without a license on April 5 and 6 during the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) license-free freshwater fishing weekend.

The event provides an opportunity for anglers of all skill levels to explore the state’s diverse freshwater fishing spots. While a fishing license is not required, all other regulations, including seasons, bag limits, and size limits, remain in effect.

FWC encourages participants to visit its fishing basics webpage for tips on getting started or refreshing their knowledge.

Anglers are also encouraged to participate in FWC’s TrophyCatch program by submitting largemouth bass weighing eight pounds or more for a chance to win prizes.

For more information on fishing locations, boat ramps, and piers, visit MyFWC.com. The next license-free freshwater fishing weekend is scheduled for June 8 and 9.

Two family-friendly fishing events will take place in Florida during the weekend:

Tenoroc Fish Management Area, Lakeland

  • April 5, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Pre-registration is required by April 4 at 5 p.m. by calling 863-648-3200
  • Activities include a casting contest, exhibitors, and outdoor events for youth participants
  • Free lunch provided by Publix Supermarkets and the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida
  • Free bait and loaner fishing equipment available for children 15 and younger. A parent or guardian must accompany youth participants

Florida Bass Conservation Center, Webster

  • April 5, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Participants should bring their own fishing gear and bait
  • Free lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers provided by Vital Fleet Services
