FLORIDA — A Tampa man has been arrested after allegedly planting radio-controlled explosive devices in a casino restroom, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced.

Bryan Robert Eckley, 46, faces two counts of making, possessing, or discharging a destructive device. The FDLE conducted the investigation alongside the Seminole Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI Tampa Field Division.

FDLE Tampa Bay Special Agent in Charge Mr Mark Brutnell said Mr Eckley attempted to evade capture but praised the investigative team’s work.

“Eckley did everything he could to hide from law enforcement,” said Mr Brutnell.

“But thanks to the exceptional work of this investigative and forensic team, he will be held accountable for his actions.”

According to the Seminole Police Department, the investigation began on Sept. 30 when employees discovered two explosive devices in casino restrooms before they detonated.

Investigators said forensic analysts connected evidence from a prior arrest to the devices. Days before placing the devices, Mr Eckley was reportedly arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in an unrelated aggravated assault with a firearm case.

Eckley was taken into custody on Oct. 30. The Office of the State Attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case.

The investigation remains active.
