WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — An incident at a tennis court in Santa Rosa Beach resulted in the arrest of an intoxicated teenager visiting from Alabama, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).
On Monday evening, WCSO deputies responded to N Winston Lane, where tennis players were found to be physically restraining a 17-year-old who was reportedly attempting to fight those around him.
The teenager, from Mountain Brook, Alabama, had come to the local tennis courts in Santa Rosa Beach and began verbally harassing other players, which quickly escalated into physical confrontations, said the WCSO.
At one juncture, the teen allegedly pushed a patron to the ground on the court after being asked to leave. In self-defense, the individual who was shoved managed to restrain the suspect until law enforcement arrived.
Deputies said they observed clear signs of intoxication and disruptive behavior from the 17-year-old, who was reportedly found in possession of a 1.75-liter bottle of vodka in his backpack.
According to the WCSO, during the arrest process, he directed profanities towards his mother and several deputies and even spat in the face of one deputy.
The teen from Alabama faces charges including battery on an officer, battery, obstruction without violence, and possession of alcohol by a minor.
