NICEVILLE, Fla. — Officials with Okaloosa County, the Okaloosa County Sherriff’s Office, Northwest Florida State College, and family and friends of former Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Gilbert will meet in Niceville this week with the former sheriff to formally dedicate the Sheriff Larry Gilbert Emergency Operations Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
Gilbert served as Okaloosa County Sheriff from 1980 to 1996.
The invitation-only ceremony is set to occur on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
In 2020, the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution recognizing the contributions of Gilbert during his 16 years as sheriff.
“Because of his many contributions to our community, the Okaloosa County Emergency Operation Center and Joint 911 Communication Dispatch at the Northwest Florida State College Niceville Campus, will now be designated as the “Sheriff Larry Gilbert Emergency Operation Center,” the board said.
