Okaloosa, Walton COVID cases, deaths, significantly drop

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that new COVID-19 cases and deaths have significantly dropped over the past seven days in Okaloosa and Walton counties.

COVID-19 is responsible for less than 10 deaths in Okaloosa over the past seven days, down 82.5 percent over the previous week when 40 deaths were reported in Okaloosa County.

Okaloosa reported 443 new COVID-19 cases over the past week according to the CDC. In the previous week, 1,117 new cases were reported, a decrease of 60.4 percent.

New hospitalizations in Okaloosa County for people with COVID-19 decreased by over 44 percent over the past week, according to the CDC. Over the past week, Okaloosa had 38 new hospital admissions. There were 66 new hospital admission the previous week.

The testing positivity rate in Okaloosa is 17.45 percent, down from 27.32 percent last week.

In Walton County, 101 new cases were reported over the past seven days, down over 70 percent from 338 new cases reported by the CDC the previous week.

There were 19 new hospital admissions, down 44.12 percent from 28 admissions the previous week.

The CDC reports the number of deaths is less than 10, a 16.67 percent decrease according to the CDC.

Walton’s positivity rate is 14.79 percent, down from 18.44 percent the previous seven days.

According to the CDC, the transmission level of COVID in Okaloosa and Walton counties is “high.” It recommends that everyone in Okaloosa and Walton wear a mask in public, indoor settings.
