January 28 COVID-19, vaccination report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Thursday reported 167 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 19 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The FDOH reports 473 people received vaccinations in Okaloosa County on Wednesday. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 14,533, and 1,132 people have completed the vaccination series.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 16,402.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 283, six more deaths since the previous day.

Statewide, 11,423 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,687,594. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 26,035.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 614, two since the previous day. Currently, there are 59 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 752 test results returned in Okaloosa Wednesday with 171 positives. The daily positivity rate is 22.74 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 19.96 percent for the week ending January 23, down from 21.79 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 10.0 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
