Niceville 2020 Election Ballot Set for Mayor, Council

Judy Boudreaux and Daniel Henkel, both long-serving members of the Niceville City Council, have qualified to run for Mayor of Niceville. In addition to the race for mayor, the April 14, 2020, Niceville election features five candidates seeking the council seats being vacated by Boudreaux and Henkel, who must resign to run for mayor.

NICEVILLE, FLA — Judy Boudreaux and Daniel Henkel, both long-serving members of the Niceville City Council, have qualified to run for Mayor of Niceville. The qualifying period for candidates ended Feb. 28.

In addition to the race for mayor, the April 14 municipal ballot features five candidates seeking the council seats being vacated by Boudreaux and Henkel, who must resign to run for mayor.

Suraj Patel and Abner Williams are running for City Council Group 3, and Carl  T. Donahoo, Stephen Shelton, and Rachelle Waltz are seeking the Group 4 seat, according to Dan Doucet, Niceville City Clerk.

Balloting for the special election is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall on April 14, 2020. Voters may vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot from the city clerk’s office.

The special election is needed to fill the remaining term of Niceville Mayor Randall Wise who passed away Jan. 20. Wise served as Mayor of Niceville since 1971. In July 2019, he was re-elected without opposition.

Both the term for mayor and the Group 3 council seat expire in July 2023. The Group 4 seat term expires in July 2021.

There is no salary for elected positions in Niceville; officials serve without pay.
