The 2014 U.S. Army 6th Ranger Training Battalion Open House will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Camp James E. Rudder.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to see instructors and students training in the swampy woods north of Fort Walton Beach, a snake team will handle venomous snakes and alligators, and an airborne team will parachute into the camp. Weapons will also be on display, and attendees can fire them, too (blanks, not live rounds).
Each year, 1000s of students go through rigorous training in an attempt to become an Army Ranger. Part of that training is at Camp Rudder. Fewer than half graduate.
The last open house at Camp Rudder was in 2012 and about 2,200 people attended.
Attendance to the 2014 event is free. Proceeds from concession sales and car show entry fees will go to Fisher House and help pay for the battalion’s annual ball.
The camp is located on Overlord Drive. Follow the signs from State Road 189.
