EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla — The United Through Reading program bonds military families separated by deployment through reading children’s books on video.Since partnering with the Eglin Library this year, the organization sent the library more than 70 books for recording, said Jennifer Kepple, supervisory librarian.
Before a deployment, a service member can select a book and record it. The recording is then e-mailed to the member to send anywhere they choose. The member also gets a book for themselves and one for their children.
“Separation due to deployment can greatly impact a family,” she said. “Video recordings of a deployed service member reading to their children gives their family a sense of normalcy and continuity.”
She said the library will display the books so patrons can see what they want to read.
To book recording appointments, call 882-9308.
