NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 5,706, 61 since yesterday. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 772.
The DOH reports the total number of COVID-19 -related deaths in Okaloosa County is 127, no change.
Statewide, 3,449 new cases were reported today, continuing Florida’s upward trend.
The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is 316, no change. The FDOH reports today there are 15 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.
According to Health Department Director Dr. Karen Chapman, week six of school saw the most students (45) and staff (18) cases of COVID-19 since school started. Chapman said the 63 cases resulted in 705 students and 38 teachers being placed in quarantine. COVID-19 cases and quarantines have led to the cancellation of this week’s high school football games.
According to the FDOH, there were 416 tests returned since Friday in Okaloosa with 61 positives. The daily positivity rate is calculated at 14.66 percent, up from 9.34 percent yesterday and more than triple the state’s daily positivity rate of 4.36 percent.
Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate was 7.79 percent for the week ending Oct. 10, down from 8.17 percent the previous week. The state reported its weekly positivity rate at 4.52 percent; Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center reports Florida’s weekly rate to be 12.17 percent.
