The Niceville High School girls tennis team is headed to the state tournament after defeating rival Leon in the 1-3A final held Friday, April 11, on the clay courts at Bluewater Bay Tennis Center, the home court of NHS.
“Sam Sepe, Alexis Hruby and Andi VonHilsheimer won in straight sets, Maddie Hsiang survived a three-set thriller and the Eagles cruised to an abbreviated 4-0 win to punch their ticket to state for the first time since 2000. It will be the first time since 2004 that Leon — the 2010 and 2011 state champions who have finished top three at state the last four years — will sit out the state playoffs.”

The state tournament begins Wednesday and runs through Friday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.
