Niceville police issue 77 tickets during Operation Save the Day

NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Niceville Police Department (NPD) recently concluded its Operation Save the Day road safety campaign. The goal was to make a busy stretch of John Sims Parkway safer by getting drivers to slow down.

During the three days of extra patrols from April 24 to 26, the NPD said officers issued 77 tickets, mostly for speeding. However, the number of tickets had dropped by 40 percent by the end of the campaign, indicating drivers were slowing down, according to the NPD.

Niceville Chief of Police Rob Lovering called Operation Save the Day a success. He said it was aimed at reminding drivers to watch their speed and avoid dangerous driving habits, not writing tickets.

“The initiative would have been a success if no tickets were written at all,” said Mr Lovering.

Niceville Police Department’s Operation Save the Day violation heat map shows where tickets were issued during the three-day operation to slow down speeding drivers. The warmer colors (red, orange, and yellow) indicate a higher concentration of tickets issued. Cooler colors (blue and green) indicate lower values. (Contributed)
