Three students from Niceville High School have been named finalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Advancing to the final level are juniors Hunter Brake, Stephanie Kaufman, and Diana LaFollette.
The students are now eligible for the National Merit Scholarship awards which will be offered in the spring of 2017. They will also compete for one of 2,500 National Merit $2500 Scholarships that will be awarded on a state representational basis.
Winners are selected without consideration of family financial circumstances, college choice, or major and career plans.
The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States.
High school juniors must score in the top 50,000 on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in order to compete for scholarships.
Only about 50 percent of the finalists will earn the distinction of being named a National Merit Scholar.
NHS principal Charles Marello recently presented certificates to Hunter, Stephanie, and Diana recognizing their achievement (top photos).
