Former University of Alabama and Dallas Cowboy football champion to visit NWF

Former University of Alabama and Dallas Cowboy Super Bowl XXX champion, Sherman Williams will visit Northwest Florida State College to talk about fame, fortune and losing it all.

During a scheduled visit sponsored by the college’s African American Student Association, Sherman Williams will share how he overcame significant challenges to become a success story.

On Saturday, February 18, Williams will be the featured panelist at a Student Symposium where he will talk about his journey and the importance of making measured decisions. The symposium will be held on the main campus of NWF in Niceville, in the Learning Resources Center, building 500, room 128 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Following the symposium, Williams will sign copies of his book, Crimson Cowboy, at the NWF Barnes & Noble bookstore at 12:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Sherman played his college career at the University of Alabama. There he developed his signature touchdown celebration, the Sherman Shake, while achieving national recognition and earning All-SEC and second team All-American honors. In 1995, the Dallas Cowboys drafted Sherman in the second round as a number one pick. Following his football career, Sherman was incarcerated for 15 years.

Since his release, he has focused on bettering the lives of others by communicating his story and acting as a mentor for young adults and student athletes.

Through his non-profit organization, Palmer Williams Group, Williams partnered with retired NFL player David Palmer to provide youth development programs to assist and guide disadvantaged youth to overcome interpersonal obstacles, embrace family values, education, and how to avoid life’s pitfalls. By returning to the streets where he made poor choices, Williams now makes a difference to kids growing up in similar circumstances by sharing with them how to make good choices and decisions for a successful life.
