Westwood Nursing and Rehab in nearby Fort Walton Beach has been rated deficiency-free by the Florida Department of Public Health. Westwood earned the rating following its most recent inspection.
Receiving a deficiency-free survey is not common for skilled nursing facilities in Florida. Less than 5.2 percent of nursing homes in the state achieve the rating. The rating means all services provided at the facility meet or exceed all state and federal standards.
Skilled nursing facilities are inspected annually to evaluate services and renew state licensure. Unannounced, surveyors come in to interview, observe, and check records for several days. Surveyors determine compliance with regulations governing areas such as quality of care, residents’ rights, confidentiality and quality of service. It is an intense review of performance and compliance by the provider and is one quality indicator for individuals and families facing placement decisions. If each of the many applicable regulations is met, the nursing home is awarded a “deficiency-free” survey.
According to Karen Hughes, Executive Director, Westwood’s staff develops plans to continuously improve their services and the facility with support from its parent organization, Healthtique Group Management LLC, Hickory, North Carolina.
“All of our staff is to be commended for this show of excellence and caring” said Hughes.
