October 1 is “Wear Pink Day” in Okaloosa; free community dinner Oct. 5

As part of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital’s Breast Cancer Awareness month activities, they’re following up Wear Pink Day with a free community dinner – Standing Up To Breast Cancer – on Thursday, October 5, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,  at the Niceville Community Center.

The Okaloosa County Commission has proclaimed Sunday, October 1 as “’Wear Pink Day” in Okaloosa County for the fourth consecutive year. Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital encourage residents to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing pink and posting their photos to social media using the tags #WearPinkDay and #StandingUpToBreastCancer.

Keynote speaker, Sally Baskey, is an author, humorist, and motivational speaker from Texas whose message radiates around using humor to get through life.  With a strength in managing technical areas as a non-technical person, Sally keeps it simple!  She will present “Laughter, My Drug of Choice” with a special emphasis on breast cancer by educating, influencing, and entertaining attendees.

Dozens of festive pink flamingos will be available for adoption during the event.  A minimum $20 donation to the American Cancer Society allows attendees to take the flamingo of their choice home with them after dinner.  100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay For Life.
