NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Inaugural Underwater Dumpster Dive, an underwater cleanup event, is happening at Bluewater Bay Marina on Saturday, May 1.
The marina and local scuba divers have teamed up and are asking others to join them in cleaning and clearing trash from Ward Cove. The goal is to remove items that might be harmful to the bay and our ecosystem.
Under the water, scuba divers will pick up various trash that has accumulated in the cove, under the boats, and under the docks. On dry land, volunteers will assist in recording interesting items, weighing, and disposing of items.
Paddle Boarders, kayakers, canoers, and small boat operators can be useful in safety spotting and assisting the divers in getting the debris to land.
All volunteers are welcome.
There will be prizes for the most unique item found and most expensive item found.
Volunteers will meet on the beach at Bluewater Bay Marina/LJ Schooners Dockside Restaurant & Oyster Bar, May 1, at 9 a.m. The clean-up ends at 1 p.m.
If lightning is occurring, the event will be rescheduled.
