U.S. 98 westbound lanes in final configuration

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — The U.S. 98 westbound travel lanes are now opened to the final configuration between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive, the Florida Department of Transportation said in a statement this week.

The westbound segment was widened from two to three travel lanes and includes a new bicycle lane.

Construction crews will continue asphalt paving for the eastbound segment, turn lanes, and side streets over the next month, the FDOT said.

Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures on U.S. 98 east and westbound, between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive, Sunday through Thursday nights, from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. as crews continue to pave and stripe the roadway.

The work is part of the $42 million project to widen U.S. 98 from four to six travel lanes between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive.

The widening project includes the construction of new sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Construction is estimated for completion this summer.

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
