Two Niceville students are among the 16,000 semifinalists for the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. The local semifinalists are Indira S. Mishra, of Niceville High School, and Hannah Y. Suh, of Rocky Bayou Christian School.
Mishra and Suh are the only Okaloosa students named as semifinalists and are among a total of five semifinalists from Northwest Florida. The others attend Gulf Breeze High School.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31million that will be offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition.
Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States.
