FDOT crews on site assessing repairs for the Mid Bay Bridge.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has tentatively scheduled to open the Mid-Bay Bridge (State Road 293) in Okaloosa County late evening Wednesday, Jan. 16.
Once open, traffic will be limited to two-axle vehicles including cars, trucks, SUVs, school buses and limited EMS and first responder equipment only. Semi-trucks and commercial vehicles will be required to use alternate routes until permanent repairs to the Mid-Bay Bridge are complete.
The restrictions are in place as a cautionary measure intended to minimize the stresses on the bridge while FDOT contractors make repairs. Variable message boards will be placed on both ends of the bridge to alert drivers about the temporary restrictions.
FDOT personnel and contractors along with Mid-Bay Bridge Authority have been working around the clock to complete emergency repairs on the Mid-Bay Bridge. FDOT’s priority is to provide a safe and efficient transportation system and the current repairs are being performed to ensure the safety of the traveling public and crews working inside the Mid-Bay Bridge.
