NICEVILLE, Fla. — A 17-year-old Defuniak Springs resident with an active felony warrant by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and a separate hold by the Niceville Police Department was arrested Saturday amid brand new charges, according to a press release by the OCSO.
Darius Wingate, a passenger in a car, gave an OCSO deputy a fake name after a traffic stop near Racetrack Road and Mar Walt Drive near Fort Walton Beach on Saturday afternoon, according to the OCSO report.
When confronted with the fact the name wasn’t valid, Wingate reportedly tried to run but was subdued. The deputy found 19 grams of cocaine in his pocket, the OCSO said.
Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and resisting without violence were added to Wingate’s list of charges.
The active OCSO warrant was for possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
Wingate also had a hold placed on him by the Niceville Police Department.
