The Taylor Haugen Foundation has announced the recipients of its annual scholarship awards to area student athletes in Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties. Diana LaFollette of Niceville High School is among the group of five winners.
In addition to LaFollette, the outstanding students receiving the awards are Christopher Roller Jr. of Baker High School, Grason Shackelford of Fort Walton Beach High School, Maddie Grace McCurdy or Gulf Breeze High School, and Austin Garofalo of South Walton High School.
Each receives a $1,500 scholarship award.
The winners were selected by the foundation’s volunteer scholarship committee comprised of five annually rotating board members and community supporters. The application for the scholarships is based on the
foundation’s five pillars of Taylor’s character, including Academics, Athletics, Leadership, Community Service, and Faith. Along with these pillars, each submission must include a written essay on perseverance based on Taylor Haugen’s motto, “Don’t Quit…Never Give Up.”
The 2017 Taylor Haugen Foundation scholarship winners all excel in every aspect of life and plan to attend college across the nation this coming fall. One winner plans to attend the University of Southern California, while others plan to stay closer to home.

The Taylor Haugen Foundation currently provides scholarships for Santa Rosa County (1), Walton County (1), Okaloosa County (2), and one (1) specifically for a Niceville High School senior. This year the Foundation had a record number of applicants with a staggering 18 for Okaloosa County alone.
The $1,500 scholarships are offered in the memory of Taylor Reid Haugen, Class of 2011. Taylor was a member of the Niceville Eagles Football and Wrestling Teams as well as being an Honor Student at Niceville High School.
