DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. — A DeFuniak Springs man was arrested Saturday morning after Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, conducted a large-scale search following reports of an armed trespasser, the WCSO announced.
Deputies responded to Deer Run East after a resident reported confronting a suspect inside a fenced-in area of their property who was possibly armed with a firearm, according to the sheriff’s office.
K-9 teams from Walton Correctional Institution and Okaloosa Correctional Institution, along with the Office of the City Marshal, DeFuniak Springs Police, assisted in the search. Authorities issued an Everbridge alert to nearby residents, warning of an increased law enforcement presence in the area.
After what was described as an extensive search, K-9 teams and a WCSO sergeant located Christopher Miller, 47, who was reportedly found carrying a loaded Glock 19X handgun and a blade.
Miller is said to have had an active warrant from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department for theft. In addition to that charge, he is facing new charges, including possession of methamphetamine and armed trespassing, the sheriff’s office said.
Mr Miller was transported to the Walton County Jail.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office thanked the assisting agencies for their role in the arrest.
