WALTON COUNTY, Fla.—The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) on Friday said it arrested a second suspect in connection with a shooting in Mossy Head that seriously injured an 11-year-old.
According to the WCSO, its Criminal Investigations Bureau has charged a 16-year-old boy with destroying evidence and accessory after the fact.
WCSO responded to a shooting on West Cypress Avenue in Mossy Head on May 2. The agency said a frantic 911 call was made by the victim’s mother, who told dispatchers her 11-year-old son had been shot.
After numerous interviews and forensic analysis of evidence, investigators said they were able to determine that the teen knew about the shooting and tried to conceal evidence.
The 16-year-old was reportedly booked into the Walton County Jail before being taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.
The boy is the second juvenile charged in connection to the shooting. On Wednesday, investigators charged a 15-year-old boy with attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling, using a two-way communication device in the commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence.
The WCSO said investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack that resulted in an unintended victim.
According to the WCSO, more than two dozen shots were fired.
This case is still active, and the WCSO Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing its investigation. As soon as more information becomes available, it will be released.
