NICEVILLE, Fla. — What started out as a routine traffic stop near Niceville last weekend quickly escalated into a significant drug bust, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) has announced.
The incident unfolded when Antonio Tyus, 31, of Freeport, reportedly ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Commercial Drive and Vucovich Drive.
As the deputy approached Mr Tyus’s vehicle, he said a distinct and pungent odor of burnt marijuana wafted through the air. Tyus allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana while driving.
The deputy initiated a probable cause search, which is alleged to have revealed a cache of illegal substances hidden within the vehicle.
Among the discoveries were eight grams of fentanyl, along with traces of methamphetamine and marijuana residue.
Mr Tyus was charged with trafficking in fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia.
