Replacement of U.S. 90 bridge over Simpson River near Pace underway

PACE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is reconstructing the U.S. 90 bridge over Simpson River near Pace in Santa Rosa County.

Crews have finished installing the temporary barrier wall and have begun construction of the temporary work trestle (center) that will be between the westbound and eastbound bridges, the FDOT is reporting.

Once the work trestle or temporary bridge is complete, the FDOT says the team will begin driving 24” concrete piles for the widening of the westbound bridge.

The $21.8 million project includes reconstructing the eastbound bridge and widening the westbound structure over the Simpson River.

Additional improvements include milling and resurfacing the bridge approaches, improving drainage, installing new signage, reconstructing curbs and gutters, and installing guardrails.

Once the project is complete in 2025, each bridge will accommodate two, 12-foot travel lanes and 10-foot outside shoulders that include bike lanes, according to the FDOT.
