United Through Reading
Since partnering with the Eglin Library this year, the organization sent the library more than 70 books for recording, said Jennifer Kepple, supervisory librarian.
Before a deployment, a service member can select a book and record it. The recording is then e-mailed to the member to send anywhere they choose. The member also gets a book for themselves and one for their children.
“Separation due to deployment can greatly impact a family,” she said. “Video recordings of a deployed service member reading to their children gives their family a sense of normalcy and continuity.”
She said the library will display the books so patrons can see what they want to read.
