Okaloosa County schools will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program during the months of June and July. (Okaloosa County School District)
NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) is offering balanced breakfasts and lunches at no cost for children 18 and under during June and July through its Summer Food Service Program.
The free meals are available at selected schools and served on-site, according to the OCSD. Some sites are already providing meals; the others begin on Monday, June 6.
Nutritionally balanced meals are provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin during the summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available, the OCSD said.
All children 18 years old and younger, if open site, are eligible for meals at no charge, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
According to the OCSD, the programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced-price meals during the school year.
Summer feeding sites that are located at schools provide meals to all children in the immediate vicinity in addition to those enrolled in summer school.
