Okaloosa schools host DoD Education Activity meeting in Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) last week hosted the 2022 U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Southeast Regional Grantee Meeting at the Doolittle Institute in Niceville, according to an announcement by the Okaloosa County School District.

At the March 10-11 event, 30 professionals from six states representing 10 school districts and five public and private agencies gathered to share the mission of improving military-connected students’ educational outcomes.

The attendees discussed ways to make the most of their grant dollars and impact their students on a broader spectrum while focusing on cyber education and technology integration.

In December 2020, the OCSD was awarded a $1.5 million grant from the DoDEA. The grant provides funding for more than 10,000 math and science students across the district.

“This grant has been beneficial not only to our military students but to all the students in our district. It is an honor to host this event,” said Marcus Chambers, Superintendent of Schools.

The project aims to engage leading students to build a healthy body and mind to prepare students for future educational dreams and aspirations, combining STEM education with a healthy body and mind focus, the school district said.
