October 28 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports today the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 6,308, 64 since yesterday. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 856.

Statewide, 4,115 new cases were reported today.

The DOH reports the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Okaloosa County is 130, no change.

The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is reported to be 333, no change. The FDOH reports today there are 20 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

Okaloosa Department of Health Director Dr. Karen Chapman said Tuesday that she no longer is urging, but prescribing “that all residents practice personal protective measures to protect yourself and others.”

“This is alarming,” she reported. “Okaloosa remains well above the less than 5 percent target and is at risk for widespread outbreaks of COVID-19.”

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN OKALOOSA COUNTY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL MOBILE TEST DATES

According to the FDOH, there were 550 tests returned yesterday in Okaloosa with 62 positives. The daily positivity rate is 11.27 percent, down from 13.0 percent the previous day.

Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 9.59 percent for the week ending Oct. 24, down from 9.91 percent the previous week, according to the FDOH.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 5.0 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.

The rate, about half of what it has been over recent weeks, is the result of a change in data collection and reporting.

• Cinco Bayou, 35, no change
• Duke Field, 1, no change
• Missing, 434, nine since yesterday

Florida does not publish data about deaths for persons under 18. Florida also does not publish testing, case or condition data for people in county/local jails, state prisons, migrant communities, or cumulative totals for testing and cases in long-term care facilities, probable cases and deaths before testing was available, or non-resident data at the zip code or city level.
