October 24 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports today the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 6,098, 66 since yesterday. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 820.

Statewide, 4,471 new cases were reported today.

Okaloosa County Department of Health Director Dr. Karen Chapman said this week that based on population, Okaloosa should be recording 21 or fewer new cases per day to achieve a positivity rate of below 10 cases per 100,000 in population. This week Okaloosa has 342 new cases, an average of almost 49 new cases per day.

The DOH reports the total number of COVID-19 -related deaths in Okaloosa County is 130, no change.

About one in 28 people in Florida have now been infected. That number is closer to one in 40 nationally and one in 191 worldwide.

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN OKALOOSA COUNTY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL MOBILE TEST DATES

The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is reported to be 326, no change. The FDOH reports today there are 31 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 720 tests returned yesterday in Okaloosa with 65 positives. The daily positivity rate is 9.03 percent, up from 8.01 percent the previous day.

Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate was 9.91 percent for the week ending Oct. 17, up from 7.79 percent the previous week, according to the FDOH.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 12.2 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.

Currently, Florida is testing 1.3 people in 1,000, ranking it among the lowest for testing in the nation according to data provided by Johns Hopkins.
