NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 6,032, 55 since yesterday morning. The death toll in Okaloosa now is 130, one more death reported since yesterday.
Statewide, 3,689 new cases were reported since yesterday.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 811.
Okaloosa County Department of Health Director Dr. Karen Chapman said this week the increase in the number of new cases in Okaloosa County is concerning. She said that based on population, Okaloosa should be recording 21 or fewer new cases per day in order to achieve a positivity rate of below 10 cases per 100,000 in population. This week Okaloosa is averaging 46 new cases per day.
The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is 326, one since yesterday. The FDOH reports there currently are 27 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.
According to the FDOH, there were 531 tests returned yesterday in Okaloosa with 58 positives. The daily positivity rate is 10.92 percent, up from 8.01 percent yesterday.
Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 9.91 percent for the week ending Oct. 17, up from 7.79 percent the previous week, according to the FDOH.
Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 12.9 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
Currently, Florida is testing 1.2 people in 1,000, ranking among the lowest in U.S. for testing according to data provided by Johns Hopkins.
