Niceville’s longtime Mayor wins another term

Potential candidates for the mayor’s position had until May 31 to qualify for the July 16 municipal ballot but none chose to challenge the 47-year incumbent city leader.

Niceville Mayor Randall Wise faces no opposition in the upcoming Niceville city elections, winning another 4-year term. Wise has served as Mayor of the Nicest Little City in the South since 1972.

Potential candidates for the mayor’s position had until May 31 to qualify for the July 16 municipal ballot but none chose to challenge the 47-year incumbent city leader.

Born in Niceville in 1930, Wise graduated from Niceville High School in 1949. As an original “Boggy Boy,” he grew up enjoying hunting, fishing, and swimming in our beautiful local waters.

His first start in city government was in the 1950s when he served a single term on the Niceville City Council and was one of the first captains with the Niceville Fire Department.

Wise was among the inaugural group of inductees to the Niceville Valparaiso Civic Hall of Fame.

Mayor Wise’s dedication to his hometown is unparalleled.

Wise served as president of the Florida League of Cities in 1979 and continues to be a member today. He is the Past President of the Panhandle League of Cities and the Okaloosa County League of Cities. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Okaloosa Gas District and has served as Honorary Commander at Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field, and Duke Field.

The Media Center at Ruckel Middle School is named in Wise’s honor.

Wise is a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Niceville. He has always been in the forefront supporting local businesses, attending ribbon cuttings and other community celebrations.

Mayor Wise currently serves as a Life Director of the Niceville Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce and is very active in the organization.
