Niceville Special Election
NICEVILLE, Fla – Voters in Niceville will elect a new mayor and two members to the city council during a special municipal election scheduled to take place on April 14.
Balloting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall. Voters may vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot from the city clerk’s office.
The special election is needed to fill the remaining term of Niceville Mayor Randall Wise who passed away Jan. 20. Wise served as Mayor of Niceville since 1971. In July 2019, he was re-elected without opposition.
To date, two people, Judy Boudreaux and Daniel Henkel, both current members of the Niceville City Council, have announced they intend to run for mayor, according to Dan Doucet, Niceville City Clerk. Each has resigned from serving on the council effective April 14.
Doucet said two members of the Niceville Planning Board have expressed interest in running for the seats on the city council now held by Boudreaux and Henkel. Boudreaux currently holds the Group 3 seat on the board; Henkel holds the Group 4 seat.
Both the term for mayor and the Group 3 council seat expire in July 2023. The Group 4 seat term expires in July 2021.
Doucet said eligible voters interested in running for Mayor or either of the city council posts must submit qualifying paperwork between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28. The races are non-partisan.
There is no salary for elected positions in Niceville; officials serve without pay.
