Niceville teen builds custom dog house, donates to Alaqua [PHOTOS]

Hannah Schneidewind, a senior at Niceville High School, recently designed and built a custom dog house which she donated to Alaqua Animal Rescue, where she works as a volunteer. We hope you enjoy this pictorial of Hannah’s project and the story behind it.

In January 2017, Hannah started walking dogs one morning a week at Alaqua Animal Rescue, a no kill animal shelter in Walton County.

 

She fell in love with every dog she met and even convinced her parents to get a second rescue dog (Mowgli) when her older brother went to college last fall.

 

Hannah wanted to do more. She asked the staff what she could do to help and they told her they would love a new dog house.

 

She got all the measurements, drew up plans, and purchased the lumber, hardware, and paint.

 

Hannah raised the funds for the project through her non-profit organization, I’mpossible. Its mission is to inspire young people to change the world around them through outreach programs both in their communities and around the world.

 

Hannah is no stranger to contributing to her community. Last fall, she individually raised $47,000 towards the rubber track fund at Niceville High School.

 

Hannah plans on attending college next fall and majoring in engineering, and then pursuing a master’s degree in architecture.

 

In the future, she hopes to build sustainable tree houses.

 

Hannah delivered her dog house to Alaqua Animal Rescue at the end of August.
