NICEVILLE, Fla. — More than 600 school zone speed violations were recorded in Niceville during the week of March 3-7, highlighting ongoing concerns about driver compliance in areas where children’s safety is a priority, the City of Niceville said.
According to data from the Niceville Police Department, a total of 611 speeding violations were detected by the city’s automated school zone speed cameras, averaging 122 violations per day. The cameras, which have been active since February 5, are operational only during designated school zone hours when warning lights are flashing.
The recorded data shows significant speed violations at two key locations: Palm Boulevard and Partin Drive. The average speeding violation was 14 mph over the limit on Palm Boulevard and 15 mph over the limit on Partin Drive.
The highest speeds recorded were 25 mph over the posted limits, meaning some drivers were going more than double the speed limit in a 20 mph zone and nearly triple the limit in a 15 mph zone.
The city’s school zone speed camera warning period remains in effect for less than 30 days. After this period ends, officials said that warnings would be replaced with citations that carry fines.
The city and police department urge drivers to adhere to posted speed limits, particularly in school zones, to enhance safety for students, parents, and school staff.
