Niceville resident opens float therapy spa

Niceville’s Trey Hearn and his brother, Chris Hearn, recently introduced float therapy to the Emerald Coast with the opening of Float Brothers Float Spa in Destin.

With flotation therapy, individuals float in a closed, specialized float tank that contains warm salt water. Many find the tranquil environment – free from the pull of gravity, sight, sound, or touch – restful and relaxing.

“It’s an alternative way to find peace and serenity, and it’s proven to help many mental and physical ailments,” said Trey. “Folks float to relieve stress, recover from injuries, ease chronic pain, and relieve anxiety and depression.”

Float Brothers Float Spa features themed float rooms, each with a shower and float tank pod. The pods are nine feet long and five feet wide. Each has optional multi-colored lights inside. Sessions are either 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

Because the temperature of the water is the same as the body’s normal skin temperature, within a few minutes, one loses the sensation of where the body stops, and the water begins. A heavy concentration of Epsom salts makes the water denser than the Dead Sea, so floating is effortless.

According to Trey, floatation therapy can be very helpful to those who suffer from PTSD. With this in mind, Float Brothers has a program which provides free floatation therapy sessions to veterans and active duty military diagnosed with PTSD. Both Trey and Chris served in the Air Force and were stationed at Eglin Air Force Base.

“Our PTSD program is very close to us,” said Trey. We’re honored to have the opportunity to serve those who served our nation and are suffering from the effects of PTSD.”

Those interested in the PTSD program should call 850-460-8720 or email info@floatbrothers.com.

Float Brothers Float Spa opened Jan. 29 and business has been brisk with both new and repeat customers. Single session floats cost $50 for 60 minutes and $65 for 90 minutes. Discounted packages also are available.

“We’re happy to be doing even better than we expected,” said Trey. “Already, weekends have been completely booked.”

Float Brothers Float Spa is located at 4463 Commons Drive, in the Plantation Commons Shopping Center next to Marshall’s. The spa is open seven days a week.
