Niceville High state winner in science and technology challenge

Niceville High School has been named Florida’s winning high school in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest. Next up, NHS will compete against the winners from the other 49 states and Washington, D.C. in hopes of becoming one of 15 national finalists.

The competition asks students to explore a project aimed at solving a problem within their community through science, technology, engineering and math.

The NHS project is exploring the fabrication of “green school buses,” and if they receive part of the $2 million in funding that will be shared by the winning schools, students would refit a school bus to make it diesel/electric, in part by placing solar panels on its roof.

As the state champ, Niceville High will receive a camera and laptop computer.

Once the group of 15 finalists is selected, schools will present their idea to a panel of judges. Additionally, the public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite.
