“We are concerned for the health and well-being of our residents,” said Daniel Henkel, Niceville Mayor Pro Tem. “People should not be risking their lives in order to vote.”

The election is being held to elect a new mayor and two city council members. It was made necessary by the death this past January of Niceville Mayor Randall Wise. Because two city council members are seeking the mayor’s post, both of those seats also are up for grabs.

The candidates running for mayor are Judy Boudreaux and Daniel Henkel. Suraj Patel and Abner Williams are running for City Council Group 3, and Carl  T. Donahoo, Stephen Shelton, and Rachelle Waltz are seeking the Group 4 seat.

Henkel put in place social distancing for the meeting. Four of the council members were not in the council chambers and instead took part via a conference call.  Henkel was in the council chambers chairing the meeting. Less than 10 people were in attendance including city officials.
