Niceville among Florida’s safest cities

The Nicest Little City in the South was ranked the 22nd safest city in Florida in a study released by Alarm.org.

Niceville has been named one of the Safest Cities in Florida for 2018 by the National Council for Home Safety.

Cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.

According to the study, Niceville’s violent crime rate is 1.39 per 1,000, and its property crime rate is 16.97 per 1,000.

The average for the state is 5.18 violent crimes per 1,000 and 34.46 property crimes per 1,000.

Niceville is the highest ranked city in the area. Fort Walton Beach is ranked number 61, and Crestview is number 98 on the list. The violent crime rate in Fort Walton Beach is 3 per 1,000. In Crestview, it is 5.09 per 1,000.

The top-ranked city in the Sunshine State is Marco Island, with .11 violent crimes per 1,000. Others in the top five are Weston, Parkland, Satellite Beach, and Key Biscayne,
